Create a package
If no package(s) is set up in Addition, shipping rates won’t be displayed at checkout.
To display shipping rates at checkout, you must have at least one package set up in the Packages section of the app. Packages help ensure accurate shipping quotes for customers and streamline your fulfillment process.
In Addition’s Packaging section, you can:
- Set up multiple packages with weight and dimensions.
- Save Australia Post’s standard options (satchels, padded mailers, tube mailers) or create custom packages.
- Ensure rates reflect your actual packaging, especially if you use non-standard sizes.
To manage your packages, go to "Packaging" in the left-hand menu of the Addition app.
How to create a package
Go to the Packaging Section
- Select 'Create package',
- Give Your Package a Name - Enter a unique name for your package.
- Select Platforms
- Choose which platforms this package will be used for: Retail, MyPost Business, eParcel, or StarTrack.
- Set Shipping Zones
- Specify if this package applies to Domestic, International, or both.
Note: Australia Post Flat Rate packages are for domestic shipping. Select "Domestic" only in the "Which zones use this package?" for flat rate satchels and/or boxes
- Set Purpose of package
- Decide whether this package is for:
- Order Fulfilment – Available when fulfilling orders.
- Customer Checkout – Used to calculate shipping rates at checkout.
- Select one or both options
- Decide whether this package is for:
- Select Packaging Type
- Australia Post Packaging – Only select if you use Australia Post branded packaging
- Custom Packaging – All other packaging, enter your own dimensions and weight. Note: If you have selected StarTrack as a platform, you won’t see Custom Packaging as an option, as StarTrack does not use Australia Post packaging.
Setting Up an Australia Post Package
- Select the Package Type
- Choose from preset options like padded mailers, recycled padded bags, mailing tubes, etc.
- Set Weights (Optional)
- Define the empty base weight and use Australia Posts default weight limit, e.g. 5kg limit for flat rate boxes or satchels, or select your own weight limit
- Add Markup (Optional)
- Apply an additional cost to the packaging, if needed.
- Save Your Package
- Click 'Save' to finalise.
Setting Up a Custom Package
- Enter Outer Dimensions
- Input the external measurements of your packaging
- Enter Inner Dimensions (If Different)
- If the inner dimensions differ from the outer, uncheck 'Package inner and outer measurements are equal', then enter the inner dimensions. This accounts for internal cushioning, such as protective packing materials like compostable peanuts or foam inserts/padding.
- Define Empty Package Weight
- Set the weight of the empty package.
- Set Maximum Weight Allowance (Optional)
- Choose whether to use the platform’s default weight limit
- Add Markup (Optional)
- Add any additional cost for the package. Note: If an order requires multiple packages, the extra cost will apply to each one. For example, if three packages are needed, the total cost will include three times the package cost.
- Click 'Save' to finalise.
By following these steps, you can ensure your packages are set up correctly in Addition, helping to provide accurate shipping rates and streamlining your fulfilment process.
