Free Shipping rules not applying with Shopify’s Split Shipping

When products ship from multiple Shopify locations, Shopify splits the cart into separate shipping requests. This means free shipping thresholds in Addition aren’t applied to the whole order. Customers may not see free shipping at checkout, even if their full cart qualifies.

Why this happens

Shopify’s “Split Shipping” feature breaks the order into separate fulfillment requests. Addition cannot combine the order totals across locations, so free shipping rules are only applied to each partial cart.

The solution

To ensure customers still see free shipping:

  1. Create your free shipping rule in Shopify
  2. Create the same free shipping rule in Addition (You will need to be on the Pro plan of Addition or above to create Custom rate rules)
  3. Use the exact same service name in both Addition and Shopify (i.e. “Free Shipping”).

Shopify will automatically cancel out duplicate rate names, so your customers only see one “Free Shipping” option.
