What kind of printer do I need?
One of the most frequent questions we get asked is "can you recommend a printer?" - why, yes...
There are lots of different brands and printers on the market, we’ve put together a couple of printers popular amongst our merchants because, let's be honest the amount of choice can be overwhelming!
Firstly, it's important to note Australia Post only support printing labels in a 100x150mm (A6 size). There are no exceptions around this rule.
Secondly, how much volume are you sending? Do you need to 'blow' the budget?
Low volumes: If you are only printing a few labels and packing slips a day, you should be able to use a standard home or office printer, a laser printer available from Officeworks, online or even the likes of Kmart will do. The only downside is that toner can be expensive to replace.
Medium to high volume: You will want to look at a dedicated thermal printer with no or little downtime. These are direct thermal printers and do not require ink:
- TSC Thermal Printer
- GK420d – Zebra
- Dymo 4XL & 5XL (note you have to use DYMO specific labels, bit pricier than generic labels)
Further consideration for MyPost merchants:
International labels can only be printed on A4 sized paper (x2 A5 labels per page) - this is an AusPost limitation for MyPost merchants we're afraid. You will need a laser or ink printer in this case.
eParcel/ParcelSend merchants are able to print international labels on thermal printers mentioned above, on A6 labels to certain countries.
